Sustainability efforts
We are committed to the future.
Reviewing and documenting the materials used in construction helps reduce the presence of hazardous substances in buildings and enables better waste management at the end of a building’s life cycle. This method contributes to reduced environmental impact.
For major renovation and new construction projects, building materials are assessed and documented according to the guidelines of Byggvarubedömningen – the Swedish Building Material Assessment system, which evaluates products based on health, environmental, and lifecycle criteria. As far as possible, we avoid materials that contain harmful substances. We also review our standard range of building products to offer the most sustainable solutions possible.
When spaces are renovated, it is common for furniture and existing building materials to be demolished and sent to waste management – long before the products have reached the end of their functional lifespan.
When new projects are initiated, PnF assesses opportunities for reusing both building materials and furniture. When we moved into our new offices at Furunäset, we brought furniture from our previous office. We conducted an inventory of our storage and explored the second-hand market. Our efforts resulted in environmentally friendly outcomes: We saved at least 8.5 tons of carbon dioxide.
By 2030, Sweden aims to have a fossil-free vehicle fleet. By 2040, the energy sector is expected to be 100% renewable. By 2045, Sweden’s climate impact should be ”net zero.” To achieve these goals, we must become better at sharing resources.
PnF embraces the concept of the sharing economy and believes that collaboration is more effective than consumption. We encourage the sharing economy in our premises, both existing and new. This can include shared conference rooms, changing rooms, and kitchens.
At selected locations in our real estate portfolio, we are installing public charging stations for both tenants and private individuals.
The EU’s waste hierarchy prioritizes the prevention of waste generation in the first place. Reviewing production methods and consumption patterns are smart strategies to prevent waste.
We aim to provide tenants with the conditions necessary to reuse and recycle. For larger projects, we investigate which types of waste can be sorted on-site and how waste can be minimized. We also believe in the importance of waste prevention. The greatest environmental benefit is achieved when a product is never produced in the first place.
Physical activity and recovery during the workday contribute to good physical, mental, and social health. We are convinced that this strengthens both employees and employers.
We believe in preventive measures and encourage physical movement and recovery throughout the workday. We aim to create a healthy work-life balance and believe it is important to make use of the wellness hour.
We promote movement in the workplace, including marking a walking path at Furunäset. We also aim to make cycling a more accessible transport option: At selected locations, we have installed bike pumps for both tenants and the public.
We create opportunities for stronger connections between places and their users.
In our public spaces, updated lighting is a priority. We work to ensure that our construction sites are safe. For larger construction projects, we communicate with nearby businesses to build awareness and trust. As part of our operational approach, we make a habit of hiring organizations that provide new opportunities for people outside the labor market.
Ethically, socially, and environmentally, we strive to do the right thing. These principles form the foundation of our sustainability code of conduct. Through collaboration with others, our vision grows and evolves.
In partnership with others, we develop our sustainability efforts in everyday operations. This may involve responsible chemical management, coordinated transportation, clear communication in relation to projects, and safe workplaces. Spaces that are continuously updated in ethical, social, and environmental aspects provide both people and ideas the opportunity to grow.
We work towards long-term solutions that are sustainable over time.
